"DJ EASE MY MIND"
(Klumpfisk remix)

One of few modern dance music tracks to play in triple time. An epic 8½ min Durutti Column-sampling space disco drama, assembled by an artist not seen since 2008.

Swedish duo Niki and the Dove's debut single "DJ Ease My Mind" didn't go unnoticed when it appeared in it's original shape 2010, but few people probably sensed it would stay current for quite a long time by taking different forms.

The track reappeared in a slightly different version on the duo's album "Instinct" in 2012. The same year hardstyle artist Isaac released a version of the song. In 2014 Skrillex included a take on "DJ Ease My Mind" on his surprise album "Recess".

And in the spring of 2015, Sweden's Klumpfisk returns after more than six years of silence, to give "DJ Ease My Mind" a new intriguing incarnation.

Klumpfisk's version of "DJ Ease My Mind" uses its generous 8:27 for casual space disco vibes as well as bursting drama. By the time the first verse breaks in after two minutes of ambient monotone buildup, the remix' peculiar rhythm concept starts to get prominent: The vocals have been rearranged to match a 3/4 pattern! This time signature is rather unique for a modern dance track, but excitingly enough the beat of this remix proves to be as danceable as a straight 4/4 groove.

Soon there are more twists to discover, as it turns out Klumpfisk has attached the chorus of the original track to chords borrowed from British post-punk act The Durutti Column, in a way resemblant of French style filter house.

Around 4 minutes in, the beat drops off as the mix prepares for a loud climax, and shortly synth and guitar cooperate to create intense surges. The drama eventually fade away and the listener is left with a hollow post-climactic mood as the track finishes off using a more restrained setting for the last chorus, thereby seeming to bring even more power to singer Malin Dahlström's words.

Swedish dj Klumpfisk (currently based in Gothenburg) was last seen as long ago as in 2008, releasing a number of remixes that caught some attention in the contemporary blogosphere. Those remixes built on the electro house sound popular at the time, yet always adding various restless characteristics, such as throwing a heavy metal style guitar solo into an otherwise held back take on Lykke Li's first single "Little Bit".

Though Klumpfisk have recently started accounts on social media sites like Twitter, used for slightly odd statuses that display some kind of fetish for the ocean sunfish, it is unclear whether the Niki and the Dove remix is intented to be a first evidence of a lasting return to music, or if it's a one-off effort that will have us waiting another six years until a next release.
